Holomorphic formulas get a symbolically differentiated orbit derivative, which drives distance-field colouring and relief shading. Formulas built only from + − × ÷ and integer powers also get an extended-precision version for deep zooms.

If a formula leaves almost nothing escaping — rational maps such as (z**2 + c)/(z**2 - c) — switch the colour mode to Stripe average or Orbit trap. Those read the whole orbit, so they still show structure where escape time has nothing to say.
